Pandora updated its mobile app this week, finally bringing features available in the web version of the service to mobile.
The biggest update to the iPhone and Android apps since launch, the updated app makes it easier to access different stations, rename stations you’ve already created, and view station details. You can also spice up an existing station on the fly by adding additional artists, genres, or tracks to the mix.
Movember Mobile
It’s November, which means it’s time for Movember, a yearly month-long moustache-growing charity event that raises awareness and cash for men’s health issues.
The Movember app helps you keep track of personal and team fundraising, recruit friends to your team, and track your Mo-gress throughout the month. A new feature of the app this year lets you export a time-lapse image or GIF once your ‘stache is complete using photos from throughout the month. You can share your facial hair masterpiece on Facebook, Twitter, Google+ or LinkedIn, or with your followers within Mo Space, called Mo Bros and Sistas.
Snapchat
Snapchat arrived on Android this week. The photo-messaging app lets users take photos that essentially have an expiration date, and then send them to friends. For instance, you can text a photo to a friend that is only available for 10 seconds. Once he or she displays the image, 10 seconds later the picture will be deleted from both your phones.
Google Voice Search for iOS
Google updated its Google Voice Search app for iOS this week, giving the app a similar experience to what you find in Android 4.1, and putting the app in direct competition with Apple’s Siri.
Now you can not only perform searches by talking to your phone, your iPhone will talk back and read search results aloud. Working along with Google Knowledge Graph, those search results are also smarter than ever.
Threadlife
A new startup called Threadlife stiches together 3-second video clips called “stiches” into longer-form videos called “threads.” With the free app you can play all of your clips chronologically, or you can break out separate, smaller clips to tell a particular story.
Livestream for Producers on Android
Livestream updated its Livestream for Producers Android app with live video broadcasting capabilities. The updated version of the app includes a live video-streaming option and live blogging, letting you post real-time text, photos and video clips.
Livestream also launched a Sandycam this week, which broadcast live video footage of the storm shot from the roof of its New York City headquarters.
It can be tough to keep up with all the new apps released every week. But you’re in luck — we take care of that for you, creating a roundup each weekend of our favorite new and updated smartphone applications.
This week we found an app that stitches together 3-second video clips you record into a movie, and another that lets you delete the photos you send to a friend’s smartphone.
A popular music app got a huge overhaul this week, and Google put out an update to one of its apps that give Apple’s Siri a run for her money.
